United Way of Washington County has taken a significant step toward improving resources for Hartford residents with the expansion of its Hartford Resource Center. This facility now houses the h.e.l.p. Corner, a partnership with Interfaith Caregivers, offering free short-term loans of durable medical equipment such as wheelchairs, crutches, and walkers to Washington County residents.
Previously located in the basement of a local church, the h.e.l.p. Corner now benefits from a larger, more accessible space near the Aurora Medical Center and Froedtert Hartford Health Center. This strategic location ensures convenience for those recovering from illnesses or injuries. The expanded facility also includes its own entrance, enhancing accessibility.
Free access to durable medical equipment is especially helpful to older adults who may be on a fixed income. In addition to Interfaith, Washington County’s Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) occupies an office in the Hartford Resource Center. ADRC offers the general public a single source for information and assistance on issues affecting older adults and people with disabilities regardless of income.
Addressing gaps in Hartford’s social services, United Way has created a hub of resources at the Hartford Resource Center that support both immediate needs and long-term financial security for older residents. This initiative is part of United Way’s broader commitment to address community needs through education, financial stability, and health programs.
